Tengrinews.kz – Team Kazakhstan has won its first gold medal at the 2025 Asian Winter Games in Harbin, according to Olympic.kz.

The men's short track team won gold in the 5000-meter relay.

The champion team included Denis Nikisha, Adil Galiakhmetov, Mersaid Zhaxybayev, Aibek Nassen, Abzal Azhgaliyev, and Gleb Ivchenko.

For the first time in history, Kazakhstan won the gold medal in short track at the Asian Games. This is the sixth medal for the Kazakhstan team at the Asian Games in Harbin. On February 9, the Kazakhstan women's short track team won a silver medal. Country was represented in this discipline by Yana Khan, Olga Tikhonova, Malika Yermek, Zeynep Kumarkhan, Alina Azhgaliyeva, and Madina Zhanbusinova.

Earlier, short track skaters brought silver to Kazakhstan in the 2000-meter mixed relay. Another silver was won in speed skating. Kazakhstani skier Konstantin Bortsov and freestyle acrobat Ayana Zholdas also achieved success.

At the last Asian Games, Kazakhstan won only one bronze in short track.
