Tengrinews.kz - The National Statistics Bureau has published information on the migration situation in Kazakhstan.
According to the bureau, 29 282 people arrived in Kazakhstan for permanent residence in 2024, while 12 732 people left the country.
"The migration balance amounted to 16 550 people. Thus, for the second year in a row, there has been a positive balance in external migration. Compared to 2023, the number of people arriving in Kazakhstan increased by 15.3%, while the number of people leaving Kazakhstan decreased by 20.9%," the report says.
At the same time, the main migration flow is from the CIS countries - 81.6% of those arriving came from there, while 74.8% of those leaving chose countries in the same region.
"Among other countries, the largest number of those who arrived were from China, Mongolia and Turkey, while those who left went to Germany, Poland and the United States," the report specifies.
Most often, foreigners chose Almaty city (6260 people), Almaty region(4788) and Mangystau region (3680) as their new place of residence. At the same time, the largest number of those who left were registered in North Kazakhstan (2133 people), Karaganda (1588) and East Kazakhstan (1195) regions.
Internal migration flows in 2024 also increased significantly - the number of people moving within the country increased by 47.6%.
"In terms of interregional movements, a positive balance of population migration was observed in 4 regions of the country: the cities of Astana (73 238 people), Almaty (36 061 people), Shymkent (9361 people) and Almaty region (2639 people)," the information notes.
