US President Barack Obama has congratulated the world on Nauryz holiday, Tengrinews.kz reports. "I want to extend best wishes to this new spring and New Year," he said. Nauryz marks the first day of spring or Equinox and is widely regarded as Kazakh New Year in Kazakhstan. It has been celebrated by people from diverse ethnic communities and religious backgrounds for thousands of years. It is a secular holiday that is enjoyed by people of several different faiths. "Around the world and here in the United States you're gathering at the Nauryz table to give thanks for loved ones, reflect on your blessings and welcome all the possibilities of a new season," Barack Obama said abount Nauryz. Nauryz celebrations today are a mixture of old and new, ranging from preparing rich food to rock concerts. In fact, these days it seems that anything goes in marking Nauryz, with the prevailing rule being the more festive, the better. Kazakhstan citizens have a 5-day weekend on March 21-25 to celebrate Nauryz holiday this year.
