“This project will be an important step in strengthening international scientific cooperation and advancing cutting-edge technologies between Kazakhstan, China, and Central Asian countries. The laboratory will serve as a hub for advanced research, integrating the latest AI technologies, remote sensing, geographic information systems (GIS), and predictive modeling,” the ministry stated.

The laboratory will:

  • Monitor and manage water resources using AI and GIS technologies;
  • Develop early warning systems for natural disasters such as floods, landslides, and avalanches;
  • Utilize AI for analyzing spatiotemporal data to predict environmental changes;
  • Optimize energy resources through intelligent energy distribution systems.

According to the Ministry of Science, the establishment of this laboratory will position Kazakhstan at the forefront of scientific research and technological development. Additionally, it will enhance the training of local specialists in AI and digital technologies.

It is worth noting that Kazakhstan is set to introduce a separate law on artificial intelligence. The legislation will prohibit the creation of fully autonomous AI systems for security reasons.
