$1 billion ferroalloy plant has been constructed in Aktobe in western Kazakhstan, Tengrinews reports citing Aleksandr Mashkevich, co-founder and shareholder of Eurasian Natural Resources Corporation (ENRC) as saying. “This is the best plant that we have constructed there. It is most advanced, most innovative and most energy-efficient plant in the world. It has the most perfect ecological system in the world. It produces 440 thousand tones of carbon ferrochrome of the highest quality per year. The plant costs $1 billion," Aleksandr Mashkevich said at the ceremony of awarding of the Altyn Sapa (Golden Quality) prize. KazChrome and its plant received the award for the Best Innovations in Industry this year. According to Mashkevich, hot commissioning of the plant's main units will start in February. The plant is run by KazChrome JSC that is part of ERNC. He added that President Nazarbayev attended the ceremony of placement of the symbolic capsule in the plant's foundation three years ago. KazChrome is a division of ENRC and one of the world’s largest ferrochrome producers, supplying the market with a range of high-grade chromium alloy. The new plant with enable it to bring recovery of chrome to 92%.
