The jury’s decision on Azamat Tazhaykov’s case could affect the defense of Dias Kadyrbayev and Robel Philipos, Tengrinews reports citing The Boston Globe.

Bradford Bailey, a defense attorney in Boston and a former state and federal prosecutor, said that the lawyers of other defendants would take into account the verdict and possibly reconsider their defense strategies. He added that the lawyers might seek a deal.

“It certainly suggests that . . . (those involved in the trial) will have to take a look at the change of venue, in terms of the publicity around this case and whether they can have an objective jury in the district of Massachusetts,” Bailey said.

Azamat Tazhayakov, a Kazakhstani student was found guilty of obstructing justice and hindering FBI’s investigation of the Boston bombings case. He will face the maximum sentence of up to 20 years of imprisonment. When the verdict was read out, Tazhayakov’s father Amir Ismagulov’s shoulders dropped and his wife, after the verdict was translated to her, broke into tears. Tazhayakov will be sentenced on October 16.

The hearing of Dias Kadyrbayev’s (the second of the two Kazakhstani students) case is scheduled to September.
