America’s Edwin Rodriguez might become the next rival of Kazakhstan boxer Gennady Golovkin, Vesti.kz reports. K2 Promotions is arranging the match between Kazakhstan's Gennady Golovkin, WBA/IBO middleweight champion (24 won, 21 KO) and America’s Edwin Rodriguez (22 won, 15 KO) on January 19 at the legendary Madison Square Garden’s boxing ring. Earlier it was reported that IBO super middleweight champion South African Thomas Oosthuizen (won 20 (13 KO), lost 0, drawn 1) would become Golovkin’s opponent. Either of the two bouts will be held in a catch weight because Golovkin is middleweight while Oosthuizen or Rodriguez are both super middleweight. Golovkin’s match will be aired by HBO TV Channel on January 19. Gennady Golovkin is an undefeated boxer from Kazakhstan who competed in middleweight (75 kg) at the 2004 Summer Olympics and won a silver medal. He is the current WBA (Regular) and IBO middleweight champion.
