Tengrinews.kz - Police have halted the criminal activities of two extortionists in the city of Stepnogorsk, Akmola region, citing Polisia.kz.
Operatives from the Department of Combating Organized Crime determined that the suspects regularly threatened physical violence to extort money from young local residents.
The suspects targeted victims randomly, primarily employees of local enterprises, loaders, or store clerks. One of the victims was a 24-year-old resident, from whom the suspects extorted 80,000 tenge.
So far, three victims have been identified. According to the police, the extortionists forced young people to take out loans, microcredits, and also confiscated their mobile phones.
A pre-trial investigation has been launched on charges of extortion. The suspects have been detained and placed in a temporary detention facility. As part of the investigation, authorities are currently checking the suspects’ involvement in other similar crimes.
