A bike ride led by Olympic Champion Aleksandre Vinokourov, winner of Giro d’Italia-2013 Vincenzo Nibali and Astana cycling team was held in Almaty. The ride involved around 2 thousand cyclists, Vesti.kz reports. Despite the hot weather, the cyclists were happy to meet famous sportsmen and followed them in the ride. Astana team did not race ahead of other rides giving a chance to non-professional cyclists to ride together with them. Participants of the ride were welcomed with applause and memorable prized at the finish. “It is a great pleasure to share my joy with Kazakhstan citizens. The victory at the Giro d’Italia was a difficult one and today we rode all together to celebrate it,” Nibali said. According to amateur cyclist Nadezhda Potashova, the event is a to the cyclists. “Such approach to sport will help us achieve good results in future. I am happy to see that many people prefer the healthy transport and I am taking part in this ride today not for the victory but for my small contribution in development of sport in our country,” she said.
