Tengrinews.kz - Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, who arrived in Moscow on a working visit, participated in the meeting of the CIS Heads of State Council, according to Akorda.
The President of Kazakhstan thanked Vladimir Putin for the traditionally warm welcome and fruitful work by Russia during its chairmanship in the CIS.
The head of state emphasized that further strengthening the potential of the CIS as an authoritative international organization, established on the basis of the 1991 Alma-Ata Declaration, remains an unconditional priority for Kazakhstan.
"The CIS has managed to prevent the situation in the post-Soviet space from developing along the worst-case scenario, as was the case in the Balkans in the 1990s. In my opinion, we should cherish our Commonwealth," noted Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
According to the Head of State, today’s meeting aims to give new momentum to the work of the CIS in the context of geopolitical instability and a rapidly changing international environment.
"Kazakhstan welcomes the mutual steps taken by Azerbaijan and Armenia aimed at concluding a peace treaty. We also note with satisfaction the significant progress in finalizing the legal formalities for certain sections of the interstate borders in the Central Asian region," said Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
The President emphasized that the CIS has gained broad international recognition as an effective regional organization that makes a significant contribution to global cooperation and development processes.
"The Commonwealth has a well-developed network of contacts with various UN structures and other international organizations, which contributes to its growing authority on the world stage. Last year, observer and partner statuses were established for the CIS, demonstrating the openness of our organization. I propose considering the establishment of a 'CIS+' format, which will serve as a basis for expanding regional ties," stated the Head of State.
