People responsible for elevators explained the reasons of the accident in Severnoye siyaniye (Northern lights) residential compound in Astana, Tengrinews.kz reports. “This elevator was going down from the 23rd floor at a normal speed. At the first floor the delay sensor failed (delay sensors help elevators to slow down before stopping). When it reached the first floor at the nominal speed, the second sensor of the correct stop worked, but the speed was not right and the elevator went down,” Director of Kazinterlift Sergeu Snyakkovskiy commented on the accident. He said that it is impossible for the elevators to fall. “The fall is impossible. There are devices that control the elevator's movement.” Director of Kazinterlift also said that he is ready to help injures people, but he seems to not know their exact number. “I've heard, one person has a closed fracture. We are now looking for this family. We will render whatever help is needed,” Snyatkovskiy said. Meanwhile, Astana Department of Emergency Situations said that three people were injured in the elevator crash. Galina Chin, born in 1971, has a closed fracture of left ankle, closed fracture of calf bone and maim of right knee. Maria Ukibassova, born in 1968, has a closed fracture of calf bone head. Another injured person, Adiya Dussumbek, 3, has maims of both feet. The injured received medical aid and were sent home.
