The new Kokzhailayu skiing resort to be built in the vicinities of Almaty, Kazakhstan’s biggest city, is estimated at $756 million, Newskaz.ru reports, citing the country’s Minister of Industry and Trade Asset Issekeshev. “As commissioned by President Nazarbayev, the Ministry is negotiating with the Almaty Mayor’s Office over construction of the resort with the overall length of skiing pistes of up to 500 km”, Mr. Issekeshev said. According to Mr. Issekeshev, investments into the infrastructure are estimated at $756 million, with commercial investments into hotels expected at $2-4 billion. The Minister also briefed on the status of Burabai resort project developed in a picturesque area of pinewoods, great number of lakes, mountains and cliffs in the north of Akmola oblast. The $90-million 7-stage project is to be implemented within 12 years. Construction works are under way to complete Burabay Resort Hotel with an adjacent area of 3 hectares. The first stage of the project is to be commissioned in autumn.
