Kazakhstan’s First Vice Prime-Minister Serik Akhmetov met with victims of this year's floods in South-Kazakhstan oblast, Tengrinews.kz reports citing official website of Kazakhstan Prime-Minister Karim Massimov. Akhmetov arrived to South Kazakhstan oblast under instruction of Prime-Minister Karim Massimov. The First Deputy checked the situation in the region and met with the citizens of the rural areas and looked at the condition of hydrotechnical facilities and protection dams. In Turkestan he met with evacuated citizens of Shaga village who were placed in one of the schools. They expressed their gratitude for timely help and provision with hot food and warm clothes. In Yekpendi village Akhmetov checked the bridge and the dam. He also checked the situation in flooded villages Shaga and Temirlan and met with local citizens. Besides, first Vice-PM held a meeting with the oblast administration to discuss measures on prevention of floods and preparedness of the emergency situations services for anti-flood measures. Oblast Akim (Governor) Askar Myrzakhmetov said that there had been no such floods in the area since 1950s.
