Tengrinews.kz - The Washington Post has uncovered details regarding the operation involving the detonation of pagers in Lebanon. According to the newspaper, Israeli officials stated that Israel began planning this operation back in 2022.
According to The Washington Post, an unnamed marketing specialist, who previously worked for a Taiwanese firm, prompted Hezbollah to purchase a large number of Taiwanese Apollo AR924 pagers. She later established her own company and obtained a license to sell the pagers.
The production of the pagers sold to Hezbollah was outsourced to a third company. However, the woman who facilitated the deal with Hezbollah was unaware that the pagers, which contained explosives, had been manufactured in Israel on behalf of Mossad.
“The bomb component was so carefully hidden as to be virtually undetectable, even if the device was taken apart, the [Israeli] officials said. Israeli officials believe that Hezbollah did disassemble some of the pagers and may have even X-rayed them,” writes The Washington Post.
The article notes that the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad began supplying Hezbollah with radio devices rigged with explosives and equipped with listening devices back in 2015, without the group’s knowledge. Before the incidents involving the detonation of the gadgets, Mossad reportedly limited its activities to merely monitoring the radios.
On September 17 and 18, communication devices, including pagers and radios, began to explode in various areas of Lebanon.
