French energy company Fonroche Energie SAS and Kazakhstan's ZhambylHydroEnergo are implementing a project to construct a solar power plant in Zhambyl oblast in the south of Kazakhstan, deputy director of ZhambylHydroEnergo Yernur Dzhiyenbayev told Interfax-Kazakhstan. The final agreements were reached after the forum TARAZ INVEST-2012 and a personal meeting of Zhambyl oblast Akim (Governor) Kanat Bozumbayev with Thierry Carcel, Chief Executive Officer of Fonroche Energie SAS. The planned capacity of the solar power plant will make 24 megawatt at the initial stage and can be massively increased to 2,000 megawatt in time. The project's cost is estimated at $80 million. The pay off period of the project is 15 years. Construction is expected to start in the beginning of 2013. According to the spokesperson, all issues related to the project have been resolved, feasibility study has already been completed and is now undergoing a expert examination. A whole range of advanced technologies will be used in construction of the power plant: from silicon-based batteries to specialized innovative solar energy solutions that are only at the testing stage. A so-called "measurement of the sun" will be performed in Kazakhstan for the first time. ZhambylHydroEnergo is a state company dealing with organizational support to investors in renewable energy sources.
