An explosion of six gas bottles caused a fire and damaged a dormitory in Astana, KTK reports. The fire happened at night of April 24. Almost 300 people were left without housing. Fortunately, no casualties were reported. However, the victims lost all their property and documents. "Everything was on fire. We opened a window, torn blankets into stripes and made a rope out of them. We wanted to live. We started jumping out of the window one by one. My sister went first, she injured her foot," one of the victims Aiman Assylbekkyzy said. The three-storey building was damaged very badly. Most of its residents were from other cities. They spent the rest of the night in a bus provided by empathic people. None of the officials checked on the victims. According to the preliminary information, one gas bottle blew up in one of the rooms and five other bottles detonated later. Fire-fighters brought 15 more similar bottles out of the building. The residents used the bottled gas to cook their food and said that they were not aware of the danger of these bottles. The building is surrounded by the police. Experts will check it to make sure it will not collapse. An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.
