Kazakhstan Olympic winners will be honored with fireworks in Astana

Astana authorities are planning to hold a fireworks show in honor of Kazakhstan's London Olympic athletes today, on August 17, in Astana, Tengrinews.kz reports referring to Vadim Gostev, general director of Kazakhstan Fireworks company. “The salute will be fired near Baiterek monument. Some of the salute cannons will be located behind the stage that will be installed for the celebration. Large cannons will be placed in Aray park, the cannons of the middle row of the firework show figures will be placed behind Baiterek on the side of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The fireworks will color the sky in official state colors, which are gold and blue,” Vadim Gostev said. He added that 3000 to 3500 small and medium-sized shots and 20-25 large high-altitude ones will be fired as part of the show. The fireworks will mostly consist of medium-sized shot salvos. The first salvos would start in the evening, he said, but gave no exact time. The fireworks show will be visible from any place at the city, but the most splendid view will be laid out from Baiterek monument. President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev will take part in the official Olympic winners honoring ceremony that will be held in the Palace of Independence. It is expected that 115 Olympic athletes will drive along Astana streets accompanied by a motorcycle escort. Astana citizens will come out of the streets to welcome the Olympic athletes. “Then we will congratulate the Olympic athletes on their victories at the Palace of Independence, hold a concert in their honor and arrange a drink reception. The ceremony will finish with fireworks,” an Information and Archive Committee’s official of the Ministry of Culture and Information said.
