Representative of the UN Secretary General Miroslav Jenca arrived in Mangistau oblast to check the situation in Zhanaozen and discuss the reasons of the clashes on December 16, 2011, KazTAG reports citing press-service of Mangistau oblast Akim (Govenor). "The visit to Mangistau oblast is made upon an invitation from Kazakhstan government. The goal of the trip is to check the situation in Zhanaozen, discuss the reasons of the clashes of December 16-17, 2011, and the measures taken for sustainable development of the region and prevention of similar tragedies in future," Jenca said at the press-conference on Sunday, March 11. During the visit Jenca met with Akim (Governor) of Mangistau oblast Baurzhan Mukhamedzhanov who told him about the works on restoration of Zhanaozn. "Mister Akim updated me on the details of the measures and long-term plans and huge finances allocated for their implementation. I was very pleased to hear that the trial will be open and transparent. The rights for fair trial and the right for defence will be fully ensured. We have also talked about management of the crisis processes and preventive measures that will help prevent similar situations from happening," Jenca said. According to the Akim's press-service, Jenca will visit Zhanaozen, where he will meet with representatives of the local executive authorities and citizens. He will also check the restored facilities.
