Representative of the observers mission of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) are happy with Nazarbayev’s decision on Zhanaozen elections, Tengrinews.kz reports. “When we first found out that Zhanaozen elections were cancelled, some of the PACE mission's members were very upset. PACE deeply supports the President’s decision who vetoed the decree of the Constitutional Council on canceling the elections in Zhanaozen. We are very happy with that and support this decision,” coordinator of PACE observers group Elizabeth Papadimitriu said at the meeting with the members of Kazakhstan Central Election Commission on January 12. She noted that she is also happy that there are many women among the candidates. According to Papadimitriu, this shows a positive development of Kazakhstan, increase in openness and transparency.
