Nazarbayev condoles to King of Spain over rail accident

Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev sent a telegram of condolences to the King of Spain Juan Carlos I over the railroad accident in Galicia region, Tengrinews.kz reports citing the President’s official website. The President wrote that it was with deep grief that he took the tragic news of the railroad accident near Santiago de Compostela station that caused numerous human victims, and expressed condolences on his own behalf and on behalf of the people of Kazakhstan. “In this tragic moment, my dear friend, please pass the words of condolences and support to the families of the victims,” the telegram says. The accident happened at 8:42 pm (1842 GMT) on July 24 as the train carrying 218 passengers and four staff was about to enter Santiago de Compostela station in the northwestern region of Galicia. Rescue workers recovered 73 bodies from the train's wreckage and four more victims died later in hospital. A total of 143 people were said to have various injuries.
