Kazakhstan’s President Nursultan Nazarbayev has met public officials of the West of Kazakhstan, his Press Service reports. At the meeting he dwelt on major economic issues and efforts to raise employment rate in the region. “There is a necessity to further implement programs to develop small and medium-sized business and micro-lending facilities. To this end, public awareness of the programs should be raised in the first place. The task for region and city governors is to highlight benefits of the programs for individuals. All the favorable conditions have been put in place, notably to support entrepreneurs dealing with cattle breeding. The Government renders support through pinpointed industry programs”, Head of State said. “Industrial agriculture has a vast potential. The world is facing food shortages. About a billion people are suffering from malnutrition. At the same time Kazakhstan enjoys a vast territory to develop agriculture. However, we badly need advanced technology to raise efficiency of the sector. Here in Kazakhstan we are content with 1300 kg of crops per hectare, while China enjoys 3000 kg per hectare. The situation in the country’s agriculture should be changed through government support”, President said. “Kazakhstan should step away from relying on its natural resources (…) Since the State Program for Accelerated Industrial Development for 2010-2014 was launched, over 700 new industrial enterprises have been created, with a total of over 180 000 new jobs. However, some industrial enterprises in the region haven’t reached its projected capacity yet. Plants and factories should be constructed with exports to external markets in mind; otherwise there will be no development”, President said. “Kazakhstan is facing a high mortality rate due to cardiovascular diseases, so we have had cardiology centers in all country regions built. There are over 10 000 surgeries made a year. Maternal and infant mortality rates have been significantly reduced”, Head of State said.
