12 Akims (Mayors) were relieved from duties after a rating of Akims activities had been made in Kazakhstan, Tengrinews.kz reports citing deputy head of Kazakhstan President’s Administration Bauyrzhan Baibek as saying at a seminar for secretaries and heads of offices of state authorities.
“A rating of Akims of different levels is a very important tool that we have been using over the last two years. The rating will be approved by Kazakhstan President’s decree. Along with the evaluation system, the rating will be a basis for rotation and promotion of Akims of different levels. As of today 12 Akims of different levels have been relieved from their duties based on results of the rating,” Baibek said.
He did not specify the names of the Akims with the worst rating indexes. He noted that the rating was made of 45 key effectiveness indexes. “If an Akim cannot improve his or her region or city, we start questioning his or her effectiveness in the position,” Baibek said.
He reminded that President Nazarbayev instructed to make a transfer to forming state authorities based on professional qualities. He also reminded that the number of positions in state bodies would be slashed 8-fold. Instead, A block made of professional managers will be created.
