Tengrinews.kz - Kazakhstan has determined the VAT threshold and tax rate. The government and deputies have reached a compromise on this issue, said the Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of National Economy Serik Zhumangarin.
On April 9, amendments to the new Tax Code are being discussed in the Mazhilis for the first reading. Serik Zhumangarin, who presented the report, stated that the government and deputies had managed to develop common approaches.
"VAT will be 16 percent (currently 12 percent – ed.). The VAT threshold will be set at 40 million tenge. This is the result of the compromise we reached. But I want to emphasize that, against this background, we are losing 160,000 new taxpayers and are missing out on about 400 billion tenge in additional revenue. I mention this so that our businesspeople understand that our government and Parliament are ready to make such compromises," said Zhumangarin.
Moreover, according to him, Kazakhstan will tighten the process of opening new individual entrepreneurships (IEs). The relevant regulations have already been prepared.
"For those who have previously committed violations, for those who have additional inactive IEs, opening new IEs will be a more complicated process," the vice prime minister added.
The session of the Mazhilis discussing the amendments to the new Tax Code of Kazakhstan (first reading) was broadcast.
It should be noted that earlier the government had proposed a differentiated VAT rate: 16, 10, and 0 percent for various sectors of the economy.
Regarding the reduction of the VAT threshold, the government had proposed lowering the threshold from 20,000 MCI (78.6 million tenge in 2025) to 3,800 MCI (about 15 million tenge). Deputies considered such a reduction too drastic and proposed their own version—10,000 MCI (39.3 million tenge).
