Tengrinews.kz – The fraudulent doctors, Nikolay and Liliya Nikonov, who had been on an interstate wanted list, have been extradited from Kazakhstan to Russia after evading authorities for two years, according to the press service of the Main Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia for Moscow.
The couple, accused of defrauding and providing unsafe medical services, was transported to Moscow.
According to investigators, between 2018 and 2020, Nikolay, lacking any formal medical education, posed as a specialist treating children with cerebral palsy (CP), with his wife assisting him in treating patients and conducting massage sessions for which they were paid.
In particular, Nikolay Nikonov promised to cure a girl born in 2017, administering a series of massages and receiving more than three million rubles from the child's parents. After the girl's condition worsened, her parents sought help at a state hospital.
Investigators later identified another family that fell victim to the couple, having learned about their services through online ads and social media.
In June 2022, the suspects fled abroad to evade investigation. They were charged in absentia under the Criminal Code and placed under a pretrial detention order. Investigators later discovered that the accused were in Kazakhstan, where they were subsequently arrested.
