Counterfeit alcohol worth of 1 million tenge seized in Almaty

Almaty Anti-Corruption Department initiated eight criminal cases in connection with production of counterfeit alcohol, Tengrinews.kz reports citing deputy head of the Department Margulan Sarbassov as saying in Almaty.
Financial police found around 1,100 bottles of counterfeit alcohol, 210 excise tags, nine liters of ethanol, two liters of cognac, labels, thermal covers and caps in Darkhan micro-region of Almaty.
The overall cost of the seized goods is estimated at 877 thousand tenge ($6,000).
In Ulzhan district of Almaty the police found 362 bottles of alcohol products in the boot of a local resident's car. Excise tags, labels, filtering hose, bailer and 10 liters of ethanol were seized as well.
Earlier financial police found and stopped illegal activities of 23 gambling facilities in Almaty. All criminal cases have been set to the court.
Sarbassov said that as a result of criminal prosecution of officials found guilty of corruption and embezzlement of budget money more than 5 billion tenge ($34 million) have been returned into the state budget.
