Qazaq Quartet string quartet from Kazakhstan’s Almaty has become the winner of an international competition in Italy, a Tengrinews correspondent reports.

The string quartet consists of students of the Almaty-based Kazakh National Conservatory named after Kurmangazy - Timur Talanov (violin), Eldar Aytbekov (cello), Adilet Abdrakhmanov (violin) and Zarina Sugurova (viola).

"We have been playing a quartet since February. The idea of a quartet popped up because of the international competition in Italy. Professionals were invited to join. This is the first award in a serious competition for our young team. I believe that’s a start. This trip has brought us together, inspired us to go further to new victories," Timur Talanov said.

The young musicians studied under Gulzhan Sapargaliyeva, Associate Professor at the Kurmangazy Conservatory. The contest included young talents from Italy, Germany, France, the Czech Republic, Russia, South Korea, China and Singapore.
