Kazakhstan national bandy team won the bronze medal in the World Bandy Championship that was held in Almaty, Tengrinews.kz reports. Kazakhstan team coached by Aleksey Nikishov outplayed the Finnish team with a score of 10:5 during the match for the third place. Kazakhstan hockey players learned that they would compete for bronze only 30 minutes before the match. However, the host country's team started to play actively, opened the score and dominated during the first half of the match that ended with a score of 4:2. Kazakhstan players managed to build on their progress in the second half of the match by scoring 6 more goals into the Finnish gates. The European team replied with only three goals. “Kazakhstan team's players are the heroes,” said Nikishov at the after-match conference. “The guys have shown what they are made of today. We lacked three players from our first team and despite of this we gained victory and I am grateful to my players. I hope this bronze medal will boost development of bandy in our country,” the coach said. Before that, on February 4, Kazakhstan team lost to Sweden in the Championship's semi-finals. The regular time of the match finished with a score of 4:4. But the the Sweden team was more successful in the penalty shootout and gained victory. After the match Kazakhstan filed a protest demanding disqualification for the Swedish team. The reason for the protest was that Sweden's halfback Daniel Mossberg had not been registered at the technical request for the match, however, he participated in the match. Kazakhstan protest was rejected the next day on February 5, Tengrinews.kz reports, referring to the organizers of the World Championship. As the result Russia played against Sweden in the final match of the World Championship that was held on February 5. The Swedish team won the World Bandy Championship in Almaty, Tengrinews.kz reports. They won over the Russian team 5:4 in the final match of the Championship.
