Tengrinews.kz - The ruling party "Georgian Dream" is once again preparing to impeach current President Salome Zurabishvili, announced the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili, at a briefing.

According to Papuashvili, a new lawsuit is set to be filed in the Constitutional Court, citing the president's foreign visits without government approval as the reason.

He clarified that the lawsuit will be submitted before the elections, and the matter will be brought to a vote in Parliament at one of the first sessions after the elections. The "Georgian Dream" party asserts that it will secure a constitutional majority in the October 26 elections, which would provide sufficient votes for impeachment. If successful, Zurabishvili's term would be shortened by approximately one month.

Papuashvili indicated that this move is largely symbolic, aiming to ensure that "constitutional violator Salome Zurabishvili goes down in history not merely as a former president but as a 'removed president.'"

The "Georgian Dream" party previously attempted to impeach Zurabishvili last October for her tour promoting Euro-integration without government approval but fell short by several votes in Parliament.

"Having received guarantees of immunity from radical opposition regarding constitutional violations, Salome Zurabishvili continued to grossly violate the Constitution of Georgia. Specifically, after the impeachment procedure concluded, she undertook several foreign visits without the consent of the Georgian government, including a trip last week to France, Germany, Poland, and Belgium," Papuashvili stated.

He also noted that the actions of foreign leaders who host Zurabishvili in their residences, aware of her unconstitutional actions, represent a "deliberate show of disrespect to the Georgian people and its constitutional order, violating the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of the country and contradicting general European values."

It should be recalled that preparations for the impeachment of President Salome Zurabishvili began last fall. In response, Zurabishvili stated that she has no intention of resigning and will continue her visits to European countries despite the ruling party's initiative.
