Kazakhstan designers told Tengrinews.kz correspondent about tendencies in prom dresses fashion. According to fashion designer Kuralay Nurkadilova, not only plain prom dresses are popular this year. Flowery colors and abstraction could be a hit as well. Drapery and one-sleeve or one-strap dresses (decorated with a bow) look stylish. She also said that narrowed downwards skirts are popular now. Wide skirts – short in front and long behind are in fashion now as well. “Dresses are made from chiffon and silk. Orange, lemon, emerald green, bright red, crimson and strawberry colors are popular this season. These are tasty colors,” the designer said. Ready-to-wear dresses cost 70 000-170 000 tenge ($473 – 1149). Tailoring orders cost 120 000-280 000 tenge ($811-1892). "Individual tailoring has always been more expensive,” Nurkadilova said. To avoid embarrassing situations when two girls from one school have the same dress the designer would write down the names of the girls’ schools and the color of their dresses. “It is best if a girl wears a one of a kind dress that is made specially for her,” the designer said. Lariya Dzhakambayeva (LaRiya brand) also designs prom dresses. She said that graduates prefer floor-length dresses and this tendency has not change for years. “Generally they order two dresses – the first one a cocktail dress and the second one for the official part of the party. In my practice, girls tend to ordered tender colors dresses – cream and peachy colors.” She also added that some girls order bright colors dresses, however, according to the designer, this trend is not upheld by the majority of the girls. Graduates can buy a ready-to-wear LaRiya brand floor-length dress for 40 000 – 80 000 tenge ($270-540). For comparison American Jovani Prom and Terani Prom dresses can be ordered in one of Almaty boutiques for 220 000 tenge ($1487).
