Aleksandr Kireyenok from Ust-Kamenogorsk won a case against the Ministry of Finance. The court has obliged the Ministry to pay Kireyenok 5.5 million tenge (around $38 thousand) in damages. For nine years Aleksandr Kireyenok has been illegally accused of repeated large-scale embezzlement, abuse of office, fraud and misfeasance, KazTAG reports citing East Kazakhstan regional court’s press service. Initially financial police initiated a case against Kireyenok in 2000. In November 2007 the prosecution office of East Kazakhstan ruled to dismiss the case for lack of evidence. The Financial Police Regional Department for Economic and Corruption Crimes reopened the case against Kireyenok a year later. The first case ruled out in favor of Kireyenok was in the end of November 2010 when the court of primary jurisdiction ruled the damages of 5.4 million tenge ($37 thousand), legal costs of 51 thousand tenge ($350) and lost pension contributions of 174 thousand tenge ($1200) to be paid to Kireyenok out of the state budget. Apologies were given to Aleksandr Kireyenko. The court obliged the Ministry of Finance to compensate the damages caused to Kireyenok.
