The Kazakhstan Transport Ministry has arranged for 16 additional flights a week to Turkey for the summer season, Tengrinews reports citing the press-office of the Ministry.

The aviation authorities reached the agreement last week, adding 16 regular flights a week - 8 from each side - between Turkey's Antalya and Kazakhstan's Astana, Almaty and Karaganda.

“We had been discussing the possibility of increasing the number of flights between our countries for some time. And due to popularity of these destinations, we decided to add 16 regular flights per week for the 2014 summer season. The flights will be performed on a regular basis and the tickets will be available for public (not just for tour agencies). Besides, the airlines will have official representative offices in Kazakhstan and will be directly responsible to their passengers,” Beken Seidakmetov, Chairman of Kazakhstan's Civil Aviation Committee, said.

The ministry is so concerned about the responsibility of airlines because last summer around 1,000 Kazakhstan tourists had trouble returning home when Turkish Sky Airlines went bankrupt in June. The delayed passengers and the Kazakhstan Government that had to provide airplanes at its own expense have still not been able to claim their damages from the Turkish company.

The Civil Aviation Committee made the decision to increase the number of flights after the Ministry of Transport and Communications studied the market demand and the available flights between Kazakhstan and Turkey together with Kazakhstan tour agencies, National Chamber of Entrepreneurs, Kazakhstan Tourist Association, and Tourism Industry Committee of the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies of Kazakhstan.
