Since 2010 Kazakhstan Financial Police has discovered 37 backstreet alcohol producing companies, Tengrinews.kz reports, citing Murat Zhumanbay, from Kazakhstan Agency for Fighting Economic and Corruption Crimes (Financial Police) as saying at a briefing on June 14. According to Zhumanbay, the Financial Police has initiated 435 criminal cases on illegal turnover of spirits and alcoholic products since 2010; 412 of these cases have been already taken to court. “A Saudi Arabian native, director of Sidar Enterprise, has been sentenced to a fine. He leased rooms at Kyz-Zhibek night club in East Kazakhstan Oblast and set up illegal storage and sales of alcohol products. 868 bottles of alcohol products and six beer barrels totally worth more than one million tenge ($6756) were seized from the crime site. These alcohol products were destroyed in accordance with the court's ruling,” Murat Zhumanbay said about one of the cases. The financial police discovered an underground filling unit that was bottling forged alcohol projects disguised as the products of Kazakhstan and Russian producers. The facility was located in a private house in Kok-Ozek village of Karasay region in Almaty Oblast. The owner of the illegal facility was given a suspended 3-year prison term. Similar cases were relieved in Semey, Almaty and Ust-Kamenogorsk cities, Kostanay Oblast and South Kazakhstan Oblast.
