Timur Bekmambetov’s Festival of Action Films Astana announced a contest of Kazakhstan superheros, Tengrinews.kz reports, citing the official website of Astana city. ART-FEST contest kicked off in April. The participants can submit their works in four nominations: Video in a Day, Comics Contest, Costume Contest and Animation Contest. All the works should answer to the main theme of the contest: Astana Superhero. According to Astana Festival's website, the works can be submitted until June 1. Finalists will have three days to make a presentation of their vision of a Kazakhstan superhero. The requirements are that the character is unique, reflects the spirit of the people of Kazakhstan and be relevant to the country's history and culture. The name of the future superhero has already been chosen: he will be called Astana. 123 people will take part in the contest. 37 of them will represent Kazakhstan, while other participants will come from South Korea, Japan and China. The first nomination’s participants will make a short animation film - between 30 seconds and 3 minutes long - featuring Astana Superhero. They are expected to show the capital of Kazakhstan as a city where a new fantastic character appears. They need to develop a story of his origin. One more group of finalists will be engaged into costume development for Astana Superhero. All the works of the participants will be displayed at LED-displays in the Festival’s Media City Zone that will be situated in the Palace of Peace and Accord (Pyramid) in Astana on July 1-3, 2012. The awarding ceremony will be held on July 3 during the Festival’s closing ceremony.
