The police started searching for Aidarbekov in the beginning of July. They found the runaway actor shortly after and sent him to a rehab center for troubled teenagers. Caretakers from the Almaty Orphanage #2 said that he broke rules often and run away on numerous occasions, but police always found him and returned him back to the orphanage.
Timur Aidarbekov played the role of 13 y.o. school kid Aslan. In his debut film Emir Baigazin, a young director from Kazakhstan, portrayed a tension between an individual and the social marginalisation machine through a story of a troubled teenager. The protagonist is traumatized by bulling at school, and then his obsessive-compulsive disorder is made worse by him classmates, pushing him into seeking a terrible revenge.
Aidarbekov, 17 was selected for the role through an audition. In an interview to Antennakz.com, Aidarbekov said that he liked world history and claimed to be a punk-anarchist. In his spare time, the young actor practiced parkour.
The film won over 25 awards and was screened at over 60 film festivals around the world.
