Tengrinews.kz - The entire government of Japan has resigned, with the parliament preparing to vote on the candidate for the new Prime Minister, citing Kyodo.

The Prime Minister is typically elected by a majority vote among the candidates presented by the parties in parliament, usually leaders of those parties. Consequently, the Prime Minister will be the head of the party that holds the majority of seats in parliament.

According to media reports, the ruling coalition, consisting of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and the Komeito party, has a majority in both houses of parliament, which means that Shigeru Ishiba is expected to become the 102nd Prime Minister of Japan after winning the LDP leadership election last week. He is anticipated to form a new government on Tuesday, which will be approved by Emperor Naruhito later that same day.

Additionally, it is expected that the lower house of parliament will be dissolved on October 9, with snap general elections scheduled for October 27.

In August, Prime Minister Fumio Kishida announced he would not run for re-election as head of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party in the upcoming intra-party elections in September, signaling a change in Japan's Prime Minister.

Fumio Kishida was supposed to travel to Astana for the first "Central Asia + Japan" summit, but his visit was canceled at the last moment due to an earthquake in Japan.
