An Astana Continental cyclist has had a stroke during his stay in a training camp in Ecuador, Tengrinews citing Vest.kz. Yerlan Pernebekov, one of the best cyclists of the junior team, was put in an induced coma. On March 15, right after some training, Pernebekov started complaining about a strong headache. He was hospitalised and doctors explained that one of the athlete's veins ruptured and he had a stroke. “I have talked with the doctor and he said that they decided to put Yerlan into an induced coma. The team's coach Vladimir Remyga is with him at the moment. And Yerlan’s personal coach has contacted the cyclist's family and we are trying to bring them to Ecuador. Doctors are doing all they can to save his life,” the General Manager of the Astana team Dmitry Sedun said. Yerlan Pernebekov got on the team only three weeks ago. And the medical examination made then did not revealed any health issues.
