Over 20 thousand people will be awarded with 20 years of Kazakhstan’s independence medals, Tengrinews.kz reports citing the President’s Administration. Creation of the anniversary medal called 20 years of Kazakhstan’s independence was initiated by the decree of Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev on May 17. Candidates for the award are appointed by the Parliament, Government, ministries and other state authorities, governors of the oblasts, mayors of Astana and Almaty, as well as public organizations. The medal is 34 millimeters in diameter. The front side has the anniversary’s emblem, ‘20’, with a zero in the form of a sun with rays against the background image of the flag. Akorda (Presidential Palace) image is at the bottom. The reverse side is inscripted with 20 years of Kazakhstan’s independence in Kazakh. The medal is made of brass. It is connected to the suspension that is decorated with two moir ribbon: red and blue.
