Tengrinews.kz – The Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation, and Aerospace Industry has proposed new rules for the sale of SIM cards to individuals and legal entities in Kazakhstan.

During Mazhilis meeting, deputies discussed the increasing cases of fraud in the country. Vice-Minister of Digital Development Askat Orazbek announced the ministry's intention to propose restrictions on the sale of SIM cards to one card per individual.

"Currently, fraudsters operate through social networks, with WhatsApp being the most common platform. However, telecom operators cannot block WhatsApp. We plan to propose a legislative initiative to return the numbering plan to the state. Citizens will receive mobile numbers either for urban use via the electronic government portal or through the eGov mobile app. Additionally, we will limit the number of SIM cards issued to each individual. Legal entities that currently obtain SIM cards without oversight for commercial use will need to justify the use of each number. We will present these initiatives to you soon," the official said.

Earlier, a new call center that “will collect all instances of suspected fraud” was proposed in Kazakhstan.
