Tengrinews.kz - The National Security Committee (NSC) reported an attempt to smuggle saiga horns out of Kazakhstan.

The case has been handed over to the police for appropriate action.

"On October 17 of this year, at the Khorgos International Center for Border Cooperation the Border Service of the National Security Committee for the Zhetysu region, in collaboration with regional divisions of NSC and the police, prevented an attempt to smuggle 991 saiga horns out of the country," the National Security Committee stated.

According to the regional Forestry and Wildlife Committee, the damage from this criminal activity amounts to over 2 billion tenge.

Recall that on October 22 in Almaty, authorities seized 4,500 saiga horns from a foreigner. The operation was conducted by the staff of the “CyberPol”. According to the detained 58-year-old man, he purchased the saiga horns in the Almaty region and planned to transport them to China for medicinal use.
