Tengrinews.kz – The reason for the emergency landing of the SWISS aircraft, which had earlier sent a distress signal over Kazakhstan and was diverted to Almaty, has been revealed, citing Nau.
Earlier, an Airbus A350-941 operating a flight from Seoul to Zurich made an emergency landing in Almaty after the crew sent an alert signal over Kazakhstan.
According to the airline, the reason for the unscheduled landing was a deterioration in the co-pilot’s health.
“The landing in Almaty took place due to a medical emergency involving the co-pilot,” SWISS reported.
Doctors who were among the passengers provided assistance to him.
“There were three doctors on board who were able to help the pilot. On their recommendation, the crew decided to change the route and head to Almaty so that the pilot could receive medical assistance more quickly,” the company added.
According to the publication, there were 227 passengers and 14 crew members on board.
SWISS also apologized to passengers for the disruption to their plans. The company added that it is currently assisting passengers and monitoring the pilot’s condition.
The press service of the Ministry of Transport confirmed that the reason for the unscheduled landing was a sudden deterioration in the co-pilot’s health.
“The pilot was hospitalized. During the flight in the area of responsibility of Kazakhstan’s air traffic controllers, the crew declared a Medical Mayday distress signal,” the ministry noted.
According to the ministry, Kazaeronavigatsia services ensured the aircraft a priority approach for landing. The aircraft is technically sound.
