Tengrinews.kz – New compulsory school subjects and courses will be introduced in Kazakhstan’s schools from the new academic year. Minister of Education Zhuldyz Suleimenova announced this at a government meeting.

According to the minister, the changes were developed as part of the implementation of the new Constitution and will affect curricula for schoolchildren of different ages.

“From the start of the academic year, the content of education will be supplemented with a number of new compulsory courses. The subject ‘Fundamentals of the Constitution’ will be introduced for students in grades 5–7. In grades 8–11, the compulsory course ‘Law and Order’ will be taught. In addition, the compulsory course ‘Personal Safety’ will be introduced for students in grades 5–11,” Suleimenova said.

The minister also said that the content of school textbooks will be updated.

By August 30, reissued textbooks for grades 3 and 7 will be delivered to all educational institutions. Textbooks for grades 4 and 9 are planned to be supplied by January 1, 2027, and textbooks for grade 8 by April 1, 2027.

According to Suleimenova, the content of primary education is also being revised. An adaptation period will be introduced for first-graders, the academic workload will be reduced, the practical focus of learning will be strengthened, and curricula will be brought into line with children’s age-specific needs.

In addition, Kazakhstan will begin introducing artificial intelligence technologies into the secondary education system. At the first stage, the project will cover 500 small rural schools, where students will gain access to modern digital educational resources and teachers will receive intelligent tools for preparing lessons and assessing knowledge.
