Around 1 million people will visit the Shchuchinsk-Borovoye resort zone located in Burabai region (a district of Akmola Oblast in northern Kazakhstan) in 2020, according to forecasts of the Tourism Industry Committee of the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies of Kazakhstan, Tengrinews reports referring to Idea Lab.

The Shchuchinsk-Borovoye resort zone is one of the most popular recreation areas among Kazakhstanis. Spectacular views and nature attract thousands of tourists every year.

According to statistics that includes only the data on visitors arranging tours through tour operators, in 2013, 94,811 people visited the resort zone, including 89,032 Kazakhstan residents, and 5,779 foreigners.

Chairman of the Committee Marat Igaliyev said that if Borovoye is made a year-round resort, its attendance could be increased ten-fold or more in 7 years. Weather conditions, natural landscape, cultural and historical heritage of the region, as well as its accessibility, make Borovoye attractive regardless of the season.

“Kazakhstan is optimistic about the Shchuchinsk-Borovoye resort zone becoming one of the locomotives of Kazakhstan’s tourism industry,” Marat Igaliyev said.

Construction of new facilities may also contribute to increasing attractiveness of the resort zone. For instance, a new golf club worth over $100 million will be constructed at Borovoe resort by 2015.

However, the main priorities so far are to improve access roads and related infrastructure, set up communication infrastructure and improve security. Besides, the area requires dealing with “a number of environmental problems, such as cleaning lakes from litter. A total of $256 million will be allocated for development of the Shchuchinsk-Borovoye resort zone in 2014 to 2016,” Marat Igaliyev said.
