When asked during the on-line conference at Profinance.kz what he would do first thing if he had chaired the IMF, Kazakhstan’s National Bank Governor Gregory Marchenko said he wouldn’t voice his thoughts. “I did think what I would do [at the position of the IMF Head]. However, I wouldn’t voice my thoughts not to scare off (…)”, he said, adding that “former French finance minister Christine Lagarde is a good choice to head the IMF”. In a separate statement he announced that he plans to publish the 2nd part of his book titled “Finance Arts”, providing no further details. According to Mr. Marchenko, “a degree from a Kazakhstan’s university is enough to be a successful financier”. “A degree from a foreign university is a plus for career growth. Whether to work for a public body or a private institution – it is a matter of preferences”, Marchenko believes.
