Tengrinews.kz - Former head coach of the Kazakhstan national weightlifting team Alexey Ni has been banned from coaching for life for violating the anti-doping rules of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF).
The Kazakhstan Weightlifting Federation confirmed this information, noting that the suspension is related to a serious violation of doping control standards. The decision was made by the International Testing Agency (ITA) on November 6.
"Alexey Ni has been banned for life for violating the anti-doping rules of the IWF (International Weightlifting Federation)," the weightlifting federation responded to a request from a Tengri Sport correspondent.
Ni was the coach of Ilya Ilyin, Zulfiya Chinshanlo, Maya Maneza, and Svetlana Podobedova. Earlier, in June 2016, it became known that the use of stanozolol was detected in the blood of athletes Ilyin, Chinshanlo, Maneza, and Podobedova, and other preparations were also found in Ilyin and Chinshanlo.
In October 2016, the Kazakh athletes were stripped of their gold medals from the 2012 Olympic Games in London (United Kingdom), and later, in November, Ilyin was also subject to sanctions, having been stripped of his awards for the championship at the Olympic Games in 2008 (Beijing, China) and in 2012 (London, United Kingdom).
Later, in March 2022, the champion of the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) Nijat Rakhimov was also stripped of his gold medal. The athlete himself stated that he was not involved in this situation, but his arguments were not accepted.
