Microsoft confirms major outage impacting global services

"Users may be unable to access various Microsoft 365 applications and services. We are continuing to mitigate the impact," the statement says.

The following services, among others, may be affected:

  • PowerBI: Users might notice that their service is in "read-only" mode during the mitigation process.
  • Microsoft Fabric: Users might notice that their service is in "read-only" mode during the mitigation process.
  • Microsoft Teams: Users may be unable to use Microsoft Teams features, including group chats and user registration.
  • Microsoft 365 Admin Center: Administrators may periodically be unable to access the
  • Microsoft 365 admin center, and any actions may be delayed if available.

"We continue to work on mitigating the impact to the affected Microsoft 365 applications and services. As we progress, users should see improvements," the company stated.

The preliminary cause is attributed to a disruption due to "a configuration change in part of our internal workloads in Azure (Microsoft’s cloud platform)." This is believed to have led to "connection disruptions that impacted subsequent Microsoft 365 services dependent on these connections."

Television channels, airports and banks around the world have been knocked offline by a massive outage that caused Windows computers to suddenly shut down.
