Dias Kadyrbayev to get no more than 7 year sentence after pleading guilty

Kazakh student Dias Kadyrbayev has formally pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice and conspiracy to obstruct justice in the Boston bombings case two weeks before the trial, Tengrinews reports citing The Boston Globe.

After Kadyrbayev pleaded guilty, the prosecution agreed to ask for no more than 7 years of prison term. Originally, the obstruction of justice and conspiracy to obstruct justice could have brought Kadyrbayev to 25 years of imprisonment. But with Kadyrbayev plea followed by the prosecution’s decision, the judge cannot go beyond 7 years.

Dias Kadyrbayev and Azamat Tazhayakov were charged of obstructing justice and conspiracy after allegedly removing the backpack that belonged to Dzhokhar Tsarnayev.

Tazhayakov was found guilty by a jury in July. Now Tazhayakov is facing up to 20 years in prison. His sentence is due October 16.
