Ust-Kamenogorsk city cheered for Kazakhstan athlete Olga Rypakova who won a gold medal in tripple jump at London Olympics, YK.kz reports. Residents of the city gathered in front of the screen at the Sports Palace on Sunday night to support Olga Rypakova who was born in Ust-Kamenogorsk. The crowd of fans included the oblast Akim (Governor) Bardybek Saparbayev and Olga’s mother Valentina Rypakova. “Olga's friends and family made posters with words of support and an initiative youth group performed a small show. A car rally was also held in her support: cars with Kazakhstan flag and photos of our sportswomen drove around the city,” the website writes. Right after Olga’s last jump, when it was clear that she could not be defeated, fireworks rolled through Ust-Kamenogorsk. Olga Rypakova brought the 6th gold medal to Kazakhstan Olympic team. Her result was 14.98 meters. The second place was given to Colombian Caterine Ibarguen with the result of 14.80 meters and bronze was won by Ukrainian Olha Saladuha who jumped 14.79 meters.
