Tengrinews.kz - Speaking at the Central Asia – European Union summit in Samarkand, Kazakhstani President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev expressed support for the negotiation process on Ukraine, according to a statement from Akorda.
"Kazakhstan has consistently advocated for the peaceful resolution of conflicts, so we welcome the start of negotiations on Ukraine, we hope for a favorable outcome, although we fully understand the complexity of the problem," he said.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev thanked the participants of the event and European partners for supporting the initiative to create a UN Regional Center for Sustainable Development Goals for Central Asia and Afghanistan in Almaty. In his opinion, this center will effectively serve to promote the universal "Agenda 2030", as well as help resolve pressing social, economic and environmental issues in the region.
The meeting was also attended by President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of the European Council Antonio Costa, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, and President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Odile Renaud-Basso.
Recall: In February of this year, during his visit to the festival "City of Working Professions" in Astana, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev commented on the situation in Ukraine.
The Head of State drew attention to the importance of maintaining stability as the main value of our country.
"We are pursuing the ideology of ‘unity in diversity.’ Despite the fact that we belong to different nationalities and religions, we are one society, one people. I urge you all to understand this deep process. Only on this basis will we achieve success. Now they talk a lot about Ukraine. From the very beginning, we have advocated for ending the war, for reaching agreement and consent through diplomatic negotiations. Our position is becoming a reality, two major powers have begun a political dialogue. This is a positive trend, it will also benefit Kazakhstan. Therefore, we will support this trend as much as possible," the President said.
