Gennady Golovkin (29-0, 26 КО) from Kazakhstan is tired of waiting for Julio Cesar Chaviz Jr. (48-1-1, 32 КО) decision to fight on July 19th in Los Angeles, Tengrinews reports citing the promoter of the unbeaten Kazakh boxer Tom Loeffler.
The negotiations on Golovkin-Chavez fight have been going on for over a month because Chavez does not want to extend his contract with Top Rank. The reason for Chavez’s discontent is money, the boxer believe he is not paid enough.
In one of his interviews Chavez said that he would sign up to fight Golovkin only in case his contract with Top Rank would not be automatically renewed afterwards.
Loeffler does not want Golovkin to miss this July fight. If Chaviz signs the contract it will be great, but if he does not, then Golovkin’s promoter will find a new opponent for the Kazakh boxer, Loeffler said.
“I'm going to talk with HBO [on Monday] and we'll see which opponents make the most sense. (…) If Bob is able to get something done with Chavez and we haven't finalized anything else, then we'll do that. We're just going to start the process of finding the best available opponent for Gennady to make certain that he fights in July. HBO has significantly stepped up its financial commitments and they're holding the July date for us, so we think we can get a pretty good fight together,” Loeffler is quoted by Yahoo!Sports.
Golovkin’s 30th fight is scheduled to July 19th on the Forum arena in Los Angeles.
