Arkhimed Mukhambetov, Akim (Governor) of Aktobe oblast has awarded Olympic champions with one million tenge bonuses ($6,757), Tengrinews.kz reports, citing KazTAG. It was reported that Olympic champions were invited by the Akim of the oblast to take part in the 2012 Health Festival that was held in Aktobe. However, only four Olympic champions (Serik Sapiyev, Svetlana Podobedova, Zulfiya Chinshanlo and Maya Maneza) out of seven arrived to participate in the event. “Today I’d like to award each of our Olympic champions, in spite of the fact that three of them haven’t arrived to the Festival, with money prizes in the amount of 1 million tenge ($6,757) each on behalf of all Aktobe residents and myself. We are proud of them. We hope that they will win the high Olympic awards many more times in future,” Mukhambetov said at the Festival on Saturday, September 8. Kazakhstan’s boxer Sapiyev thanked the head of the region for the invitation and the honor. “We felt your support at the Olympics. Our victory is the victory of all the Kazakh nation, it is the victory of the whole country,” he said. Other Kazakhstan athletes who had made significant contributions into promotion of healthy lifestyle among Kazakhstan residents were also honored at the Festival. They were awarded with Letters of Appreciation and presents in the amount of 100,000 tenge ($676). Kazakhstan national Olympic team won 7 gold, 1 silver and 5 bronze medals and was ranked 12 by medal count at the 30th Summer London Olympic Games.
